There are so many reasons why writing gurus are teaching the ropes article writing to aspiring writers. Some would like to make money from this field while others are doing it just because they want to help their colleagues. Well, whatever your reason is, it’s important that you know the basics in teaching article writing. This is to make sure that you’ll be able to empower your participants to write great articles on their own in as little time as possible.

1. First thing to do is to interview your participants. This is important so you’ll know exactly how you can help them out. Have they written articles before? What aspect of writing do they find challenging? It’s better if you conduct one-on-one interviews. You can then segregate your classes based on the skill levels of your participants.

2. Gauge the skill level of your participants. Ask each of your participants to write a simple article. Let them choose their own topics. Give them simple guidelines and instructions. Through this, you’ll know their areas of weaknesses and you can easily plan ahead.

3. Start with lecture. Before you get your participants to do some hands-on activity, discuss the things that they need to know about writing. You can start by teaching them how to write eye-catching headlines, how to research their topics, how to develop an outline, etc. You can then verify their learning by asking them to create samples. For instance, you can ask them to write sample killer headlines after you’ve discuss this topic. Then, give them feedback and tell them how they can do better. Do this over and over again until they master each step.

A Teaching Model For Motivation And Productivity

C.A.R.E.S. is an acronym for a teaching model on motivation and productivity. These are the ‘hot buttons’ that a supervisor must push to get an employee to serve the customer and produce a profit for the employer. This model was built by me in 1972 and has been tested with many companies since that date and has proven to be successful. The model appears as a static page on my blog.

Now here is the rest of the story.

As I said the model was built in 1972 by me and it came about because I was the Vice President of Human Resources for the Burger King Corporation at the time, and as such, was responsible for the training and development programs in the company. Our marketing department was ready to roll out a new commercial called "Have It Your Way" and we needed something to motivate the employees to perform at a high level.

At that time, I was familiar with most of the theories on motivation and productivity and the one that appealed to me the most was Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. At the same time, Disney had opened Disney World and I was impressed with the job they had done with developing their employee’s attitudes at that theme park.

I visited Disney’s training facility and discovered that they went beyond the traditional recruiting and training methods. They actual pre-conditioned their employees to not just apply for a job, but to try out for a part in a play. Their recruiting office was called a "Casting Office". They were taught to treat customers as they would treat "Guests" visiting in their homes. After being hired or cast in the play the employee went through a special orientation which included a room where all of the history of Disney was displayed in collages on the wall. The employee entrance which was a separate tunnel into the park had pictures of the various Disney characters and helped the employees get into character and feel good about themselves. Everything was engineered towards getting the employees to feel special in greeting the guests to the park.

Inspired by what I saw at Disney and having Maslow Hierarchy of Needs in hand I started to brainstorm with my staff what we had and what we could do to meet the challenge of maximizing our human resources.
We knew Maslow Hierarchy had 5 levels of needs. The question was how to apply the 1000 Maslow theory to what the customer wants and the company expects from its employees. We first looked at the commercial itself for a clue and we found that the promise talked about affordable fast food delivered as you like it. We broke it down into 5 parts so as to link with the theory and we came up with: product, quality, personalized service, timely delivery, and a real value. We knew what the company wanted from its employees and that was a "no brainer" to break into 5 parts: work, efficiency, loyalty, production, and profit. Well, we put all this "good stuff" on the white board and discovered that we were missing the links to connect the company wants to the customer wants. Not really, we recognize that the link was the employee, and thanks to Maslow we knew the employee had needs. The trick was how to push the employee "hot buttons" to activate the links.

We found the answer by going beyond Maslow and pulling in the theories of some other behavioral scientists like Herzberg, Gellerman, Kay, McClennan, and Vince Lombardi. And that gave us the following: Spend time to get to know and recognize the employee basic needs, Educate the employee so as to build confidence, show Respect for the work that is being done, show and give Appreciation for a job well done, and Communicate goals and objectives.

Well great, now we had the model. However, before we could roll it out we had to tweak the present organization structure in the restaurant. This meant adding two positions, one for a Crew Specialist who would be responsible for implementing and monitoring the new program orientation and training. The second position was that of Lead Hostess to coordinate and oversee the customer relations function in the resaurants. We decided to test the concept in one of our Districts in Detroit. We took 12 restaurants and divided them into two groups of 6. One acted as a control group where all of C.A.R.E.S. model was applied, the other group operated as usual.

The employee meeting room became the C.A.R.E.S. environment room and now had pictures of how the restaurant facade had evolved over time plus a history of the company. A tall mirror was placed on the back of the door so employees could check themselves out on the way to the kitchen, we had a make up professional teach the kids, and some of the grandmother types who worked in the restaurant, how to apply make up. (When word of this activity got out, we started to have a rush of applications for positions in the restaurants. A benefit we were not counting on). Special courses on customer service and hospitality were put in place. We sponsored a dance party for employees in the control group only. We ran cameras in the restaurant to capture some lunch periods and then replayed them so that the manager and crew could critique their own performance and improve on it during crew meetings. Story boards were set up at the various positions in the restaurant so that a new hire could easily refer to the operating steps of the position. It was Halloween and the kids came to work in costumes which sparked a lot of enthusiasm and excitement with the guests. These are just a few of the things that were applied in accordance with the model.

When we compared the operating statements of the two groups after 6 weeks the C.A.R.E.S. group exceeded the other group performance in all areas. Our controllable costs of labor and food were done, and our customer counts and sales were up. An unbelievable difference in motivation and productivity, not to mention profit.

Since that time, I have moved on and started my own consulting firm and took the C.A.R.E.S. model with me and taught it to various business clients in a variety of industries. And I am proud to report that after 30 years the application is still successful. It is a powerful model once you understand it and should be applied in any business that wants to recognize and maximize its human resources.

Please note that recognition of the employee is key and at the top 1000 of charts when creating an evironment of motivation and productivity.

So that is the story, you have the model as a static page on my blog. Check it out and see if it can help you to maximize your human resources.

Good Luck!

Machu Picchu is a pre-Columbian Inca which is located on a mountain ridge above Urubamba valley in Peru. Machu Picchu is also referred as “The Lost City of the Incas”, and is one of symbol of Inca Empire. It was constructed in the year 1450 and was left abandoned for about 100 years. It is said that the most of the inhabitants of this place were wiped off due to the dreadful disease known as small pox. Machu Picchu was not known to the outside world for long later an American Historian Hiram Bingham brought it to the notice of the people and since then this place has become an important spot of tourist attraction. The site is now thronged by the thousands of tourist from all over the world.

Traditionally Machu Picchu has been the birthplace of the Incan. Further researches by Richard Burger tell that this place has been an estate of Inca emperor, Pachacuti. This site was selected as it had the most ideal location and striking beauty. Another theory which evolved was that Machu Picchu was an Inca, his was a settlement which was formed to keep a check on the economy of the conquered regions. It is also believed that it was built to imprison anybody who had committed dreadful crime against the Inca society.

It was built in the classical but comprehensive Inca style, with polished dry-stone walls. Its key buildings are the Temple of the Sun, Intihuatana, and the Room of the Three Windows. These can be found in what is known by archaeologists as the Sacred District of Machu Picchu.

Machu Picchu was declared the Seven Wonders of the World in the year 2007, which attracts tourists in large number. It was in the year 1981 that Machu Picchu was declared a Peruvian Historical Sanctuary and later in the year 1883 it was confirmed as the World Heritage Site by UNESCO. This place is known for its unusual beauty and is a sacred place for the visitors.

The Incas were hardy people and ruled the Andean Cordillera, which is considered to be the second in height and harshness to the Himalayas. These people lived at altitudes ranging from 15,000 to 16,000 feet and their rituals were performed at heights up to 22,057 feet at Llullaillaco in Chile, which is the highest Inca sacrificial site known. They built roads and sacrificial platforms at these heights, which speaks in volumes of their strength and courage. This ability of the sandal clad Inca to thrive at extremely high elevations continues to perplex scientists even today.

One of the most popular courses schools and colleges have for pupils learning maths is algebra. Although studying algebra is considered challenging, there are a lot of students taking this course of study.

Although a lot of pupils are not genuinely sure of what is included in algebra but it is not horrifying as a lot of people think. Some of the fundamental parts of algebra include finding least common multiple , factoring difference of cubes and reducing fractions.

When students are studying mathematics, particularly at college level it is very essential for them to employ some planning and also some persistence in learning mathematical concepts progressively. There are a lot of college mathematics courses at beginning level that are built-up around constructing a solid path for the route into higher mathematics as they enable learning the elementary skills that are required.

Who can Help?

For helping you in mastering algebra, there is a number of software programs and these include programs such as algebra tutors. It is also possible to get a math tutor if you are genuinely uncertain about your algebra skills. The software packages are very good and will help you with all aspects of algebra including rational equations, drawing rational equations, subtracting fractions with same denominators and on how to generally go about solving inequalities.

If you start learning maths from the beginning, it is a good idea to do one of the first level courses as they will teach you the very basics and build on that so that you are able to get up to the more complex stage of mathematics. The beginning topics of algebra teach the pupils the right approach through the use of a significant number of different models and methods so this is a good beginning point for the beginner to algebra .

Why Virtual Tutors are Not Perfect?

The only problem with mathematics courses of study is that they sometimes do not follow things in a very logical order and this especially is the case when you are a pupil at primary school. A lot of the pupils at school are really very ill-prepared for covering algebra and they do not genuinely have no background knowledge in it.

A Physician Assistant has the honorable job of helping physicians in patient care and advice. It is an occupation that is more than just a mere job; it is a lifestyle. To become a successful Physician Assistant you should be an empathetic person, know how to relate to people and of course; have an excellent understanding of health and medicine.

A physician’s assistant is also known as a PA. They can practice medicine under the supervision of a physician. They should not be confused at all with medical assistants as an MA performs more clerical tasks and can work under the supervision of a physician assistant.

Physician assistant programs are similar to going to medical school. However Physician Assistant training does not last for four or more years like a doctor must go through. They instead train for 3 years maximum, sometimes only two years. There is classroom and lab work and it covers a range of medical topics like microbiology, pathophysiology, pharmacology, anatomy and more. There will also be clinical rotations in various medicine fields like surgery, paediatrics, gynaecology, internal medicine and more.

Physician Assistants are not required to complete residencies like physicians once they have finished at medical schools. However if a Physician Assistant wishes to undertake a residency program there are some available.

Graduate programs will lead to a qualification of Masters Degree in Physician Assistant Studies, Medical Science or Health Science. Other entry requirements are a Bachelors degree as well as GRE or MCAT. There are now also some programs for Physician Assistants that have an option for a doctorate qualification. This can include the Doctor of Science Physician Assistant (DScPA).

In 2006 the Physician assistant career was named as the 5th best career in America. This was based on salary ad job prospects as well as job growth which is expected to increase by almost 50% in the next 10 years. There will never be a shortage of work opportunities for a physician’s assistant.

Once you have experience in general practice as a PA you may choose to specialise in a medical field like dermatology, cardiology, surgery or others.

The mean income for a full time PA in 2007 was over $86,000. Specialist PA’s can earn up to $200,000 per year.

A physicians assistant is an excellent job and one that is highly rewarding for the right person.

So, we’re always told to diversify our investments in the market . The downside is that handling many positions with stocks is tough for first-time investors. However, there is another option and it’s a very good one . It’s called exchange traded funds and you will grow to love them once you realize their financial investing potential.

Depending on what survey you look at, only a fraction of investors know what exchange traded funds are , even to this day. I will assume you’ve maybe heard the phrase but are unsure of how they work and how to take action.

Perhaps Mutual Funds comes to mind , and ETFs are kind of similar, but much better. You see, exchange traded funds trade just like stock. You can trade them as you wish . But they are far more powerful .

When you invest in an ETF , you invest in a collection of stocks . For instance , you might buy an ETF that’s an indices . Rather than researching lots of companies and having many investing positions, you could buy a single ETF you control a segment of that market. Again, you can buy and sell them exactly like stock. It’s great.

I have used ETFs for years and I used them to diversify in the gold, oil & gas, etc markets. You can even invest in entire indices, like the Dow 30 , with a single exchange traded fund .

What I like most about ETFs is that “basket affect.” With a single trade , you will get a plethora of related stocks. Imagine you want to profit on real estate boom . What stock do you select ? Hope you don’t pick the wrong one. Confused? Scared? Simply pick a good exchange traded fund that has multiple stocks in it and you’re all set. It’s that easy.

Honestly, I didn’t think about trading ETFs initially . I thought of mutual funds, and I don’t like those. But then I discovered what they were and how they worked . Being able to trade them like stocks at my leisure was a huge selling point. No load fees, management fees and other nonsense . It’s a standard stock trade.

And what really sold me on them was the ability to control market segments and profit from it. Gold was heating up so I quickly sunk part of my portfolio into a good gold exchange traded fund and enjoyed watching it go up and up.

After you start investing with exchange traded funds , you possibly could not want to buy regular stocks again. I do both however. If stocks are very important to you , exchange traded funds can be used to quickly control a market segment without taking on several positions , which can free up your capital for other opportunities .

Permit me to say one more time, exchange traded funds can be traded just like stocks. You can place stop-loss, market and limit orders with them. And yes stock enthusiasts , you can short them! I hope you see how great ETFs are now! Before jumping in, I’d encourage to keep reading up on ETFs and then go out there and enjoy your newfound investment option.

Regardless of the state of the economy electricians are always in demand. Become an electrician to get a rewarding and secure career. To become an electrician you need to be properly trained. Most states require that you become certified or licensed before you are allowed to do electrical work without being under the direct supervision of an electrician. So where do you get the electrical training that you need to become licensed? There are many trade schools that provide electrical training. Many electricians went to school to learn their trade but that is not the only way to learn.

Another option for electrical training is the military. The armed forces uses a large number of electricians and you can receive excellent training that is completely applicable to the civilian market once you get out of the service. For some people this option makes perfect sense as you not only receive the training and a career that you can pursue for the rest of your life but you get the benefits of being paid to learn the trade, you get medical benefits and if you wish to pursue further education that option is available to you as well.

For people not interested in the military there are plenty of options for getting electrical training. One option that is tried and true and has been used since electricity was first harnessed is becoming an apprentice. Typically, an apprentice is now referred to as being a journeyman. The process is simple and is one of the best ways to learn all aspects of being an electrician. You hire on with a licensed and experienced electrician who is looking to teach someone their trade. As you work for the electrician you are taught how to be an electrician.

Over the course of several years you will learn what you need to know to become a licensed electrician. Many states require that you serve some amount of time in the role of a journeyman before you can become a fully licensed electrician. Being a journeyman is an excellent way to receive electrical training as you not only learn the concepts but you learn how to employ those concepts in a manner that actually works. In addition to the electrical training you will likely receive a lot of information about running a business and managing customers. Knowing how to deal with customers is a very important aspect of any business. Learning how to quote a price so that you make a profit but do not price yourself out of the market is an important aspect of the business that you will be exposed to. Another great advantage of getting your electrical courses through an apprenticeship is that you are being paid to learn a trade that you can apply on your own at a later time.

You are taught practical information from someone who knows what they are doing and what works and what does not work. You do not learn everything there is to learn over night but you learn from doing rather than just reading or sitting in a classroom. For many people this is a far better way to learn and being able to apply the information helps to remember it.

Surviving Teaching Your Online Courses

Teaching online courses is not the same as face to face instruction. Even though we have vast experience in the traditional classroom, we have to rethink how to accomplish many of those same positive results and interactions in a virtual environment. This article provides 7 strategies to help every instructor start off on the right virtual foot.

Strategy 1 It’s Personal. Just like classroom instruction is unique to your teaching style, so is online teaching. Do not feel pressured to teach online like everyone else because no one has the corner on TRUTH in this area. We are at an exciting time of continuing development. Therefore, find small and big ways to express your teaching style in the virtual environment.

Strategy 2 Develop A Learning Community. Invite students to post their photos or favorite slogans to create a composite class photo. This strategy goes a long way towards developing a feeling of online community. Remember, in this setting, unless you are using real-time video cameras, teachers and students do not see each other. Having a photo to reference reduces anonymity and builds a stronger sense of reality of the virtual community.

Strategy 3 Communicate. How many ways are there to communicate in an online class? Many more than we usually take advantage of. Plan to use at least 3 strategies each week with your students: blogging, virtual office hours, discussion board, email, audio comments, video comments, chat session, instant messaging (IM), telephone or voice over internet protocol (VOIP) (SKYPE, Gizmo, etc.), grade comments, etc.

Strategy 4 Grading Opportunities. When posting grades, there is an unrivaled opportunity for teachers to increase communication and feedback with students. Seldom input just a simple numerical grade. Make it a practice to usually include specific comments and encouragement about student work.

Strategy 5 Support and Encouragement. One of the issues we have to conquer as online instructors is the high dropout rate. Use every opportunity to build communication with the students and encourage them to continue their work and be responsible for their progress. Consider ways to develop a community of learners which is supportive and encouraging, teacher to student and student to student.

Strategy 6 Continuous Improvement. Online courses need constant improvement- each semester as students progress through a few sessions, return to the content and adjust it based on their feedback, stumbling blocks, and questions. For instance, make corrections, rearrange it, freshen the content, or add more dynamic media and interactivity to engage learning in meaningful learning and understanding of the content area.

Strategy 7 Lifelong Learning. Walk the Talk. As we as teachers model lifelong learning, we will be encouraging our students to do the same. In addition we will be better understanding their needs and discovering new ways to address them. The teacher who keeps growing has a vital message for her students every day.

In future articles we will continue to provide suggestions for success in online teaching, course development, and learning. In the meantime, enjoy this and Dr. King’s prior articles about distance learning.

Coupons can be a great tool in educating your child about saving money, being frugal, and shopping smart. Who doesn’t want their children to grow up knowing how to save easily on every purchase? With coupon clipping you’ll show them money saving skills they can use throughout their life!

Teaching your child with coupons can start at an early age. Pointing all of the inserts of the coupons in your Sunday paper can be a great way to teach children the colors. It is also a good way to read to your children, and the time spent will show them the value that coupons can bring to their life.

As your child grows, you can let them take a more active role in using the coupons you collect together. Letting them in on helping to manage your coupon folder will show them the importance of time and money management. Go through and get rid of old coupons together, pointing to a calendar to let them learn about time and expiration. Show them that organization and thinking ahead of a purchase will help them save money. These savings can be applied throughout their life, so it’s important to get them playing an active role in your coupon management.

Another thing that makes coupons so great in your child’s education is it teaches them math and counting skills. You can point out dollars off, letting them subtract from the purchase price, and teach them how much value can come from something that’s free. You can calculate percentages and add savings amounts. Another idea is to let them get an allowance from all the savings they find. This will not only help motivate them to find great deals, but it can help you save a lot of money at the same time.

We all know the internet is playing an increasing role in everyone’s lives. Did you know that coupons have found their way online? For most purchases you can always find an online coupon or promotion code that can be applied at checkout. One great place to find them is (http://www.couponchief.com). Make sure to show your children about this easy way to save money by simply spending a couple minutes to find a coupon. And, these types of savings are still free and are even easier to find! You can just search on any of the search engines like Google or Yahoo and find a huge range of coupons for any retailer. Not only will this teach your child about coupons but they’ll be learning the value of using computers and the internet to save them money.

We don’t think about it much, but starting early to teach with your children with coupons is very important. They will learn about the calendar, math, and saving money. These tools you teach them now will last throughout their life, so make sure to get an early start in coupon clipping with kids!
